Great Workout!

  • Mood: Great
  • Weather: Sunny and Hot

I had a great day today. Although it took some time to get myself going, I really enjoyed my walk this morning. I had an appointment, so I had to wake a little earlier. Dax woke easily, but my son did not go again. He has been ill. After seeing the doctor tomorrow, I am hoping he will workout more.

I just finished playing tennis with Dax. We had a hard time finding a empty court but we finally did. After about an hour we called it quits. We are both enjoying this time together.

As for my diet, I stayed away from process carbs other than my protein bar this morning.  I ate too much for lunch. Considering I did not need the whole thing to satisfy me, I should have divided that Zaxby salad into half. Oh well, I will do better next time. Instead of eating a dish and saving half, it better for me to separate it before our start eating or I will just pick at it until it is all gone. I must remember to drink more water.

Other than that I believe today was a much better day for my diet.

Goals for tomorrow: Walk for 60 minutes in the morning with at least 2 wind sprints. Eat at least 5 minimeals. Drink at least 8 cups of water.

The fitness journey begins.

  • Mood:

This morning when I woke I took my measurements and weighed myself. I am not willing to share that now. After I lose a great deal, I probably will. I will tell how much I lose as I measure myself weekly.

Exercise: About 60 minutes of brisk walking, cool down and stretching. Rating: Great

This morning I walked with my daughter in a subdivision next to ours. Taking some online advice, instead of holding my head down and looking at the pavement, I tried to keep my head up. I enjoyed viewing some beautiful landscapes. My walk included a couple of times of slow jogging and faster sprints giving my heart a little shock. I recovered. I'd plan to go practice tennis tonight, but changed because of the pain in my neck and shoulders that won't seem to go away. I will play tennis tomorrow because I really enjoyed it last night.

Diet: Natural carbs, a little dairy,  protein, fat, & snacks. Rating: Alright

Today, was a decent day. Trying to abstain from refined sugar, I stayed away from sodas and juices and Little Debbie oatmeal cakes. For my carbohydrate, I enjoyed watermelon and plum which contains natural sugar and a protein bar during my snacks. Working towards having 5-6 mini meals or three meals and two snacks, today I had four meals--a small, late breakfast, three snacks, and a somewhat large dinner. Shortly after dinner I began to crave junk food. I ate a few blue corn tortillas and that seemed to satisfy me.

This is not easy for me, but I will continue this lifestyle of reduction and control and physical activity for at least another day.

Goals for tomorrow: Walk 45-60 minutes with sprints in the morning. Play tennis in the evening. Eat 5 small meals. Test my sugar. Get my son to exercise also.

The day before the journey

  • Mood:

Hello. I welcome you to take this journey with me as I attempt to become physically fit and lose weight. As a high school teacher working on her master's, I can easily become so overwhelmed with my many responsibilities and forget to take care of myself properly. I neglect myself by not eating properly and not getting enough physical activity. The result of this is high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity.

Now that the summer is here, I want to develop good habits when it comes to exercise and eating. Hopefully, this journal can inspire others to do the same as well as keep me accountable in order to continually make progress. I don't know how detailed I will be but I will give it a try.

I have already started increasing my physical activity. I started walking in my neighborhood in the mornings with my daughter. I did not today, but that's okay. (I did some aerobic exercises.) No excuses tomorrow. I enjoy walking, but I have to change my route just to keep it interesting. Listening to music as I walk helps also, but I must create an upbeat playlist. Slow songs slow my pace.

Also, to change our sedentary lives, I bought tennis rackets for everyone. Yesterday, at the local tennis center, we had fun learning to serve and hitting the ball at the tennis wall. We plan to return tonight. If this continues, I may invest in a basketball goal. I am just trying to find fun, inexpensive ways to keep us moving.

Tomorrow, I plan to walk and stretch for at least 60 minutes in the morning. I plan to cut most refined carbohydrates. So, I must finish off those chocolate chip cookies tonight!!!

Well, let the journey begin.
